NSW Open Swimming Championships

Four Mingara swimmers flew the flag at the NSW Open Swimming Championships over the last 3 days. This has become one of the premier meets in the country and the last opportunity for those swimmers wishing to test their skills per to the Commonwealth Games trials next month.
Some of the best swimmers in the country including Mack Horton, Cate and Bronte Campbell and Cameron McEvoy were in attendance alongside Bradley Woodward, who still proudly represents Mingara and remains a member of our swim club. Brad was joined by 17yr old Shaye Booth, 16yr old Nathan Ward and our youngest competitor 13yr old Zara Good. All three youngsters were competing in their first Open State Championships and in spite of the presence of the superstars performed above expectation.
Bradley a lifelong club member who is now a member of the NSWIS team proudly wears his Mingara cap at meets and represents us with distinction, Bradley won a gold medal in the 200 Backstroke setting a new NSW Record in the process, he further won Silver medals in the 50 and 100 Backstroke.
Our other boys both swimming in their first Open Championships had great heat swims and qualified for “B” finals. This was a great experience for both boys and they handled themselves extremely well and gained valuable experience at competing at the highest level. The same can be said for Zara who was competing in the same event as some of her heroes and controlled her nerves and was not overawed by the occasion showing great maturity
Next stop for the boys is Commonwealth Games trials.
